If I had my way, the bedroom temperature would be set to 50 degrees Fahrenheit at night, because I can only get a good night’s sleep if the air around me is cold and I’m wrapped in soft, warm bedding. But, since I can’t always get what I want (#relationships, and also…the electricity bill), the next best thing is to wear thin, loose PJs that keep me cool. I’ve gone through a number of PJ shorts over the years, yet I still wake up feeling hot in the middle of the night.

That is, until recently. Since the hottest months on the West Coast are approaching (August and September in Los Angeles, at least), I tried on a new pair of shorts that seemed airy and light. The Night Knit sleep shorts from Richer Poorer are exceptionally soft, thin, and make you feel like you’re not wearing anything at all. And, while the material is light, it isn’t delicate. I’ve washed these shorts multiple times and they still look as good as the day I received them in the mail.

These shorts are elastic and wonderfully supple, thanks to a rayon-spandex combination. You can wear them to bed or around the house (I do both because they’re incredibly comfy and no one at work sees me below the waist anyhow). You don’t have to worry about that extra layer because they have built-in brief underwear. Furthermore, the material is breathable enough to keep you cool at night, even if you are a hot person.

According to one reviewer, “I’ve bought practically everything in this print, and these are no exception. The ideal balance of softness and substance.” Another submitted a simple review that reads, “It’s perfect for lounging and it’s so lovely! Appreciate the pre-installed layer.” Yes, these are fantastic (and stylish) shorts that will become your secret weapon if you prefer to sleep cool.

You’re in for a treat if you’ve never tried Richer Poorer clothing before. According to the firm, if they just sell high-quality, well-designed basics that last, then customers will get significantly more wear out of them (and thus there is less negative impact on the planet, and less waste). They also exclusively deal with ethical factories and collaborate with 1 percent for the Planet, a non-profit that works with brands to donate 1% of their sales to environmental causes.

So, to return to my original argument, you may not always receive what you desire (in my case: the perfect sleep environment). However, if you give it a shot every now and then, you’ll find that you can acquire what you need (these shorts).
