Skura Sponge Never, Ever Stinks-That’s Good+Well

It’s disgusting to deal with spiders. Since I have never encountered a sponge that didn’t stink after a single use (and continued to smell no matter how many times I put it through the dishwasher or microwave), it’s hardly surprising that your standard cleaning tool is brimming with bacteria.

The University of Arizona found that sponges can harbor up to 10 million bacteria per square inch, or 200,000 times dirtier than toilet seats, a fact that makes my skin crawl when I consider how many sponge-cleaned dishes I probably have eaten off in my lifetime.

There is, however, something different about the Skura. Imagine it as a next-generation sponge that prevents your regular kitchen cleaner from becoming the dirtiest thing in your kitchen.

Sponge-like materials are typically made of bacteria-harboring cellulose, but the Skura’s foam is treated with an antimicrobial technology that’s proven to inhibit the growth of bacteria, molds, and mildew. Drying quickly and not trapping food on its surface means it never stinks. It doesn’t have an E, either. When you handle things like dishes and flatware, there’s a likely possibility of E. coli lurking beneath the surface, so it’s generally a good thing. It only needs to be rinsed after each use and it’s almost as good as new.

With no “old-sponge smell,” the Skura uses a proprietary symptom to notify you when to change your kitchen cleaners. Each sponge is decorated with a pattern that will gradually fade away. If you notice it has disappeared, you should consider replacing it with a new one. The brand made it even easier by offering four new sponges every two months for only $12 per shipment.

Skura is not gross, and it works fast and effectively to remove stains even from the grimiest lasagna. One of them worked amazingly well on a dirty cooler that’d been rotting away in my garage for I-don’t-know-how-long. The Skura has changed my perspective on sponges as someone who has historically hated them. Furthermore, my dishes are cleaner than they have ever been.
