What is my life expectancy? Take the Blue Zones quiz to find out

Existential denial afflicts me in a pretty bad way. I am convinced that the Blue Zones are the healthiest, longest-lived humans on earth, so anyone who can make me contemplate the possibility of a long life will be able to do so.

Several Blue Zones are located on Earth, including Okinawa, Japan; Sardinia, Italy; and Nicoya, Costa Rica. These people have the longest life expectancies in the world. Taking the Blue Zones “True Vitality Test” will assess your status, outlook on the world, movement patterns, diet, sense of belonging, and environment to determine your lifespan. Knowing what’s important to living a good life.

When you complete the True Vitality Test, you’ll be asked questions like, “How has your health changed over the past year?” and “How many fresh vegetables have you eaten over the past seven days?” As you answer, you will see days added or subtracted from your life. Finally, you enter your email address and your score is emailed directly to you.

A Sugar Consumption Test I took once penalized my life by 40 days for consuming one serving a day of sugar. (I am okay with that.) It also awarded me 40 points for not eating fast food in the past week, and another 40 points for being in a “committed and loving relationship.” As a co-worker discovered, being married makes you rack up more days. Therefore, she will have about 150 more days to live than I did… The only problem is she lost 12 days since she had eaten five servings of meat (tough luck).

Based on Blue Zones, I will live to 90 years old, while two others will live to about 92 and 94 years old, respectively. In light of my current position on the mortal coil (sighs heavily), the folks at Blue Zones have provided me with a few suggestions on how I can extend my time here on Earth. My doctor suggested eating more whole grains, being friendly, and keeping an eye on my mental health.

The recommendations (such as those I got above) are worth trying even if you don’t necessarily take your croaking age seriously. The Blue Zones are all supported by scientific research and by ancient sources.
