You Need These Face Masks This Fall

I’ve never fully utilised the possibilities of skin-care masks as a self-proclaimed skin-care minimalist. Yes, I’d put one on for special self-care Sundays, but I’d never considered customising it to my skin’s requirements.

However, as fall approaches, I realised that my typical bare-bones skin-care routine would need to be supplemented if I wanted to prevent the dryness and flakiness that usually accompany the shift in temperature. In addition, I’ve been on the lookout for substances that may help prevent any summer sun damage from becoming permanent (read: turning into fine lines and wrinkles).

I used Chantecaille’s Purifying and Exfoliating Phytoactive Solution the last time I needed a boost of radiance, and my skin has been thanking me ever since. This time, talking with Marta Cammarano, PhD, Chantecaille’s vice president of research and product development, completely convinced me of the benefits of using a face mask.

“Masks function more quickly than ordinary moisturisers and allow chemicals to penetrate more deeply.”

Masks, according to Dr. Cammarano, “usually act faster than ordinary moisturisers and allow chemicals to permeate better.” “Because applying a thick layer of mask to your skin for a lengthy period of time (15 to 30 minutes) helps the components to stay in contact with your skin for longer and be absorbed faster.”

Masks are clearly a more streamlined approach to tap into some significant glow-boosting effects, so I tried out five different Chantecaille masks to address a number of my skin-care concerns as we head into the fall season. My fall skin-care face mask lineup is completely set, from calming masks containing a variety of refreshing botanical components to a 24-karat-gold-infused mask (yes, really) that makes my skin feel like a million bucks.

Hello, Hydration: Healing Mask with Jasmine and Lily

An all-over soothing hydrator is exactly what my post-summer skin needs moving into fall for someone with sensitive skin like me. And I could feel the moisturising properties of jasmine, lily bulb, evening primrose, macadamia oil, and other hydrating botanicals from the time I put the Jasmine and Lily Healing Mask on my skin. I even forgot to take it off before bed one night and woke up feeling incredibly soft. Aside from making my skin feel more supple and silky (which is usually my ultimate objective), my complexion looked so naturally radiant that I didn’t want to cover up my all-me radiance.

“This mask calms redness, sunburns, breakouts, and dryness,” says Olivia Chantecaille, Chantecaille’s co-founder and creative director. “I can even use it as a rich cream and a deep healing treatment while I sleep.” (It was absolutely on purpose that I forgot to take it off.)

Alex Chantecaille, Chantecaille’s vice president of sales and promotions, agrees, referring to it as her “first-aid in a jar.” I believe I’ve finally discovered the answer to all of my cool-weather windburn woes.

Gold Recovery Mask to Restore + Recover

The Gold Recovery Mask, which is made of 24 carat gold, not only makes me feel like the coolest person on the planet, but it also leaves my skin feeling ultra-refreshed after only 20 minutes. “The 24k gold in this mask is a tried-and-true mega healer, especially for post-summer damage,” Olivia explains, “transforming skin’s dullness into a radiant shine.” “I usually use the Gold Recovery Mask, especially in the summer,” Sylvie continues, “because I unabashedly love the sun, but I have sun damage—and this is the only product that cures my skin overnight.”

While I didn’t spend as much time in the sun as I would have wanted this summer, I did get a few sunburns (and the damage to boot). Because it smoothes the appearance of both horizontal and vertical wrinkles, I’ve found my face looks brighter, firmer, and less dull since I started using this gold-filled wonder. Oh, and how did my skin feel after rinsing off all of this golden goodness? I’m almost back to my peak-summer dew stage, and I don’t think I’ve ever felt more invigorated from a single face mask.

Hibiscus Smoothing Mask: No-Irritation Exfoliation

Exfoliating is a skin-care step I’ve always avoided, but since using this refreshing Hibiscus Smoothing Mask—which contains glycolic acid to effectively exfoliate, grapefruit extract for antioxidants, and papaya extracts for soothing—I’ve realised how important it is, as it sloughs off dead skin cells to help achieve a clear, glowing complexion.

“Without hard washing, this mask is the most effective botanical skin smoother,” Olivia adds. “The plants do the heavy lifting to remove dead skin, makeup, and sunscreen build-up, resulting in fresher, younger skin that is more able to absorb serums.” It’s like having a blank canvas on which to add more radiance-boosting elements, and my skin adores it.

Bio Lifting Mask Boosts Youth and Smooths Skin

Dr. Cammarano recommends the Bio Lifting Mask for both immediate and long-term youth-boosting advantages. I’m 26 and still feel like a child in adult clothes, therefore I’ve been looking for items that would help me reduce fine lines and wrinkles in the future. This mask, which contains Hexapeptide, essentially irons out the appearance of lines and wrinkles while also softening the appearance of expression lines.

“This is a simple and effective cosmetic remedy for redness, fine lines, volume, or dry skin,” explains Sylvie Chantecaille, Chantecaille co-founder, CEO, and president. Plus, you won’t have to worry about harshness because of its hydrating characteristics. Olivia explains, “I sleep in this mask many nights a week for a deep lift and smoothing effect.” “I can see effects the next morning thanks to the powerful plant stem cells and peptides.”

Breakouts, bye-bye: Detox Clay Mask

The Detox Clay Mask, which purifies and balances your skin and is Alex Chantecaille’s go-to spot treatment (and now mine), has been vital for deep cleaning breakout areas on my face without drying it out or making it feel inflamed. You know how important this is if you’ve ever tried a clay mask on even semi-sensitive skin.

The kaolin clay in this mask absorbs all of the excess oil on my skin without being harsh, thanks to the use of pure honey to nourish and rosemary as a natural cleansing agent. Plus, because my skin gets irritated when the weather changes, I don’t have to worry about getting rid of any blemishes now that I’ve got a face-masking strategy in place.

So, no matter what the fall season throws at my skin this year—dryness, dullness, breakouts, or fine lines—I have five high-quality skin-care face masks in my arsenal to address each of my concerns. Not only do they complete the task at hand, but they also give me the effortless shine I’ve always desired. (Alright, who’s up for another face mask?)
